Mark to Market vs Mark to Model

I get questions from friends and family about what’s going on in the financial markets and I try to answer them as plainly as I can. Some of those explanations will be featured here so I can save myself the trouble of explaining the same concept multiple times. I had planned to post something about the Mark-To-Market vs. Mark-To-Model debate, using architecture as an analogy, but Rortybomb beat me to it (using baseball cards instead). Check it out.
